Which is the best hotel-the Park Plaza or Le Meridien King Edward for a leisure trip in April.Or any other recommendations for a good quality hotel? Thanks

I don't disagree that the Royal York is a fine hotel, but between it and the waterfront are Front Street, the Union Station/train tracks, the Gardiner Expressway, Lakeshore Blvd., Harbour Street, Queens Quay and the Toronto Island Ferry Docks.

The Park Plaza is a beautiful and elegant hotel. We love the neighborhood. Everything is a quick ride by taxi or on the metro. There's gorgeous rooftop restaurant and cocktail lounge with outdoor terrace overlooking the city. When we were last October, it was about to change its name.

The King Edward got savaged in a food critic's review on the weekend. While it is a fine hotel, it would be about fifth on my list, prtly because of its location. It's near to the office towers, but a bit far away from the tourist attractions. <BR>The Park Plaza is under renovation, but as far as i can tell, it is maintaining quality during the construction. Something I do not understand is happening to management; it was supposed to beocome a Colony Bay hotel, but last week Hyatt announced it was taking over. Regardless, it's a nice place in a geat location for a leisure weekend in April, right across from a museum, near fine restaurants and shops, on the subway line, etc. The chairman of a major Canadian bank just retired at 55 or so, and will live in the south of France and directly across the street from the park Plaza. If that corner is good enough for him, it's good enough for you. Or go one block north, and stay at the Four Seasons, Toronto's finest hotel. And, one block west of the Park Plaza is the Hotel Intercontinental, and other great chain hotel with elegant service, good rooms, and a fine location. The park Plaza neighborhood is one you'll stroll around in after dinner. At the King Eddy, you'll just go back to the hotel. <BR>The Royal York is a special place, but in the wrong neighborhood, sort of. If you know NY, the PP is sort of in the Carlyle Neighborhood, and the Royal York is sort of in the New York Hilton neighborhood. Lots to be said for each, but more relaxed for leisure at Bloor and Avenue Road. <BR>BAK <BR>

Hi Malcolm: There is something magical about the Royal York. I was lucky enough to stay there for 5 days and they are some of the most special memories I have. Although the rooms are smallish they are elegantly appointed and the lobby and public rooms are magnificent. I feel it is in a very convenient location, right on the subway line, connected underground to good shopping, close to the skydome, the harbourfront and lots of good restaurants,theatre. I felt like royalty there and everyone deserves that once in awhile. Karen

The King Edward is fabulous!! We had a wonderful suite on the 10th floor (the concierge floor) where we had great complimentary breakfasts and cocktails daily. The service is top drawer. We were able to walk or take the subway anywhere we wanted to go. It is very centrally located. The bathroom in our suite was bigger than a lot of the rooms at the Royal York (IMHO).
