Toronto hotel recommendations -- convenient to Thornhill

We are going to Toronto in early August for a weekend. While there, we will be visiting family in Thornhill. Are there any hotels recommended that will be convenient to drive to Thornhill or is there a particular area of the city that we should stay in?

There's a Novotel on Yonge Street in Willowdale. http://www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-0910...staurant.shtml

Not an exciting part of town but it's on the subway line.

Even if you are at a downtown hotel, its very easy to drive to Thornhill. You'd simply take the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) north bound which is known as HGY 404 once you cross over HGY 401, and then exit on Steeles Ave. or Hgy 7 (which is the next exit after Steeles Ave.), depending where your relatives are.

Agree that Thornhill or Willowdale are not very exciting places for you to stay in. Theres also an Embassy Suites (or Markham Suites) Hotel located at Hgy 7 and Warden Ave. which is close to Thornhill, but a similarly dreary area (from a tourist interest perspective).

August in Toronto is amazing... stay downtown and let the relatives meet you...

Which downtown hotels do you recommend? Our budget is up to $300 a night.

We just stayed at The Marriott (Eaton Centre), Yonge & Dundas a few weeks ago.
I really like this hotel. The front desk, parking & concierge staff are very friendly & helpful.
We had a wonderfl room on a high floor facing southwest. Ask for a room w/ a balcony.
The Marriott is close to downtown attractions.
And, to go to Thornhill I think you would just head East to the DVP.

The Marriott is on the east side of Bay St., just north of Queen. Close to the QEW...3-4 minutes, 6 or 7 blcoks.

Oh! I meant to add Monday, August 1 is a holiday. You said you were going to Toronto in "early August". You may want to reserve asap if you will be there at that time.

There are lots of good downtown hotels. You say you're in Toronto for just a weekend, and will be visiting family. How much time will you have to see the Toronto sites? What are your interests? Knowing these, we can recommend the most convenient hotels.

E.g. There are top notch museums (e.g. ROM), and art galleries (e.g. AGO), several artsy/high end shopping/dining districts, Harbourfront with waterview dining and weekend music/cultural festivals, multicultural neighbourhoods and eateries, theatre district, etc.
