Toronto Hotel - King Edward
My wife and I will be going to Toronto next month.
Can anyone give me information on the King
Edward Hotel?

I found out the weekend we are going, there is a jazz festival downtown. Is it going to be impossible to walk around downtown?

Thanks for your insight.

Sorry Randy - you missed the jazz festival this year... you may be referring to Carribanna, a week-long celebration of Toronto's Carribbean heritage. If that's the festival, most of the activity is around Lakeshore Boulevard, safely away from your hotel. The festival, however, does draw large numbers of hotel guests and some traffic problems around the parade and event sites... Have fun... Now I turn the forum over to our Toronto expert Brian Kilgore for his review of the Hotel property...take it Brian...

The Beach jazz festival is on the last weekend of July. Although not strictly jazz, I prefer it to the Du Maurier. It's all free and it's a lot of fun - Queen Street East is closed off to vehicle traffic in the evening and bands are scattered along the whole street.

The King Edward is right in the middle of "downtown" Toronto, just off Yonge Street. It is older(1920's?), but beautifully renovated and very swanky....$$$.

Enjoy!

Scott

Why the King Edward? It's a lovely aristocratic downtown hotel. They serve tea every afternoon which is very popular and their spa is extremely popular and reasonable. You don't have to worry about the jazz festival.

Why the King Edward? Package purchased
through an internet auction site. I hope a good deal for a suite. I will post a trip report when we return.

It's a very elegant hotel; the kind of place where you are glad you brought good clothes.

It will be quiet on weekends. Whileyou are not anywhere interesting while at the King Eddie, except for the hotelitslef, you are within a couple of blocks of lots of interesting things to do and see. Half a block from a subway station. Two blocks from a giant department store. Three blocks from a giant shopping center. Three blocks from a great farmers market (bring cheese and bread and fruit back for snacks)

A fine, if somewhat quiet, choice.

BAK
