Well, as a matter of fact, there are a couple of errors in jilelliz's post. It was called Carman's Club, not Carmen's, and in fact it WAS a club and did require membership at first. Membership cost a few bucks and you got an actual membership card. Without it, you couldn't eat there unless you were the guest of a member. It certainly wasn't "trendy" - it was there for many years before Ed's opened. It wasn't famous for prime rib; they served mostly steak, not roast beef.

So, given that plethora of errors, I'm still betting it was Ed's that your dad was thinking of! :)

Tom Jones Steakhouse has been and will always be one of our all time favorite restaurants anywhere. It has all that you described. Their specialty dishes on the dinner menu includes prime rib. Have fun.

I love that this post is so old, yet still elicits responses. I think it is Ed's Warehouse too, but I did recall a few other places, now gone, that were known for their prime rib 'back in the day' - Sherlock's on Sheppard and The Silver Rail. Lots of comings an goings in TO - and so many fantastic restaurants still.
