Toronto bargains
The Toronto tourism industry has awakend from its sleep and launched a variety of promtoion programs. Last night tickets for the Blue jays game were only $1, but you've missed that bargain.
The biggest, most obvious deal that reflects Fordor travel questions over the past year is described at www.mirvish.com For $125 canadian, per person, based on double occupancy: one night hotel, one good meal, one theatre ticket, and one Blue Jays game. For $85, same package except no hotel. The restaurants include some excellent ones, such at the top of the CN Tower, several up-market casual ones including RD's Ribs and The Duncan Street Grill, and some lower-level, causual, but still pretty nice ones, including Il Fornello and Milestone's. The live theatre is either Mamma Mia or The Lion King, which is as good as it gets in Toronto. The Blue Jays are the Blue Jays, and I enjoyed the game last night for $1. Hotel names will be familiar, and you can learn more by looking through the Toronto threads. Fairmont Royal York, Hilton, Westin Harbour Castle, Crowne Plaza, Delta Chelsea,Holiday Inn on King, and Sutton Place. There are rules, of course, but it looks like a really good deal. If it was me, Fairmopnt Royal York, RD's Rbis retaurant, and The Lion King at the Princess of Wales Theatre. BAK |
There are some great deals to be had! I wish I had a weekend off....
|
BAK I heard the Provincial tax on hotel rooms is gone until Sept.?
|
I noticed Zip airlines ( part of Air Canada) was advertising return airfare of just $1.00 Canadian from Winnipeg to Toronto return for the May long weekend. By the time you add taxes it adds up to $200.00. There not charging fuel charges.
|
Jetsgo is offering from Montreal, Ottawa, and Newark, flights to Toronto for the next few weekends for a penny. NO TAXES. They bill your credit card a penny then refund it at the airport. So its a free flight. Seats are limited, 1000 free tickets per weekend. I believe its 300 from Ottawa, 500 from Montreal, and 200 from Newark.
The catch: travel must be departing Thursday and returning Tuesday. So its a LONG weekend deal, lol. But a great one! I personally had thought I would catch the next weekend but alas, its not to be! Hope those that can, enjoy themselves! |
Toronto Bargains Extended
The hotel / theatre / restaurant / Blue Jays bargain packages mentioned at the start of this thread have been extended to the first of July. They were supposed to expire at the start of June. Details are at www.Mirvish.com Lineups mid-morning today were only a few dozen people at the two theatres, compared to hundreds earlier in the week. I know more about the restaurants. RD's, whgich is a barbecue and jazz restaurant, is offering half a chicken or half a rack of ribs, plus appetizer and dessert. The menu price of this is close to $35. At the Duncan Street Grill, next door but no business connection, the main course is a choice of steak, angel hair pasta with chicken, or salmon. Appetizer and dessert, too. It's about $40 on the menu. Wine, booze, coffee or tea is extra. Taxes on the meal parts is included, tip is extra. Normal price of a theatre ticket is around $90, the Blue Jay tickets being offered would sell for $37 or $39 if anyone wanted to go to a Blue Jays game. So, quick math: 90 plus 40 plus 40 equals $170, and you pay $85. In the other package, which includes the ball game, theatre, restaurant and one night in a hotel, based on person, double occupancy. It's $125 per person. Current rates at the hotels range from about $170 to $220, for two people. Quick math, based on the $125 per person, compares to about $250 - 300, so it's a genuine bargain, too, assuming you want those restaurants and a ball game. I've eaten in most of them, and they are good, especially for the bargain price. It's a reasonable walk (a bit long from the Delta) from any of the hotels to the restaurants, and the restaurants are very close to both the ball park and the theatres, so you don't even need taxi fare.
