Toronto and . . . ?

I'm going to Toronto in mid-April for business, and we'd like to tack a few extra days on the front for additional sightseeing. I'm wondering if we should stick with the downtown area, or if there's other options. During the business time, I'll have evenings and one afternoon free to sightsee. We're not terribly outdoorsy, but do like scenic and typical touristy things like historic areas, some museums, etc.

We've been to Niagara Falls (both of us born in upstate NY), so don't really need to go there. If we headed out of town somewhere, we'd be renting a car at the airport.

One other question: my husband's passport expires in August. From my research, it doesn't seem like there's any regulation on passports being valid for xx amount of time after entry - in anyone's experience, is he safe for an April trip with an August expiration. We'd rather wait to renew if possible.

Thanks.

Have you done Niagara on the Lake and the Niagara wine region? With over 100 wineries, a full theatre schedule, and tons of lodging choices, you can easily fill a few days...

Passports are utilized at the border for official ID only... You will be OK as long as it's not expired...

Consider a stop in Buffalo as a day trip... Frank Lloyd Wright built an amazing compound that is 95% restored and is well worth a tour... The Darwin Martin House. Also some great restaurants, architecture, a revitalized waterfront.

Have fun.

Ever been to Ottawa? Don't rent a car, just get on the Via Rail train. If the weather is nice, watch the changing of the guard.

I thought I would search for something to help you guys out. "Things to do in Toronto":

Hope that helps!.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did three semesters in Buffalo, so no desire to go there, and a 4 hour train ride to Ottawa doesn't hold much appeal (maybe a separate trip later).

What about the southern Georgian Bay area - would it be an enjoyable drive in mid-April? Wander some small towns, see some sites, overnight in a nice inn? We probably wouldn't want to go more than two hours out.
