Top 5 Toronto/Niagara Falls "Must do's"...
 

I've been to Toronto/Niagara Falls a few times now and have always had a great time. A colleague of mine is going to T.O. for the first time this September.

I'm trying to compose a list of "Must Do" suggestions to help them have a great time.

What Top 5 things would you suggest?

Does this colleague have a serious hobby?

For some people, Toronto's a gret place to see cameras at Vistek, model trains at Georges, restaurant supplies for serious cooks, etc.

To be honest I don't know if they do have a serious hobby. My colleague has always holidayed in Spain/Canary Islands/Turkey etc. Evening entertainment would usually consist of visting a local bar/pub watching cabaret acts. I suppose they might be interested in visiting some good bars (probably not 'trendy') bars/pubs. Do you know of any?

I'd strongly recommend Chinatown on Sunday AM for Dim Sum. Also go to the area called "the Beaches" for dinner one evening. These will give great insight into Toronto's diversity and character.

The Danforth.
(Allen's Bar on the Danforth has a huge selection of scotch as well as beer, and good pub grub).
Queen St West
Harbourfront
Casa Loma and Spadina House



Niagara Falls:
I consider the Aviary a must see.
The Butterfly Conservatory is also terrific.
There's a pleasant path along the riverbank. You take an elevator down to the Barrel Museum, which has a few stories about people going over the falls. And then go outside and take a nice walk.

Niagara-on-the-Lake
The drive on the Niagara Parkway is lovely. It's also a nice bike ride.
Take in a play at the Shaw Festival.
Visit some of the wineries between Stony Creek and Niagara on the way.
Vineland estates and
Flat Rock are 2 of my faves.

To remind your friend of Spain, there is a flamenco restaruant on College and Bathurst, south side. On Friday and Saturday eveninigs there is live music and flamenco dancing.

Depending on how long your friend is in town and how far he's willing to travel, some outdoor ideas from closest to farthest: Toronto Island (fun ride on the ferry and it's pretty there), Rouge Park (the largest natural environment park in an urban area in North America), McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg (great Canadian art gallery, surrounded by beautiful property with walking trails), Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington (still great in September). These are some of my favourites if someone's visiting during the "good weather" months :)

When are they going? If they go between August 19 and Labour Day. I suggest to go to the EX, canadian national exhibition. Lots of fun. Reasonable price to get in 8 buck if you order tickets on line before thursday, 12 buck regular. Also should if you like sports should go to rogers centre to see the Bluejays play. Then go to Armadillos on front street. They have really good tex mex. Wine tasting in Niagara. Parkway drive is beautiful. I would do the speed boat instead of the maid of the mist.
