tipping policy
My wife and I are heading to lake Louise and Banff in July. Are the tipping standards the same in Canada as they are in the States. Was curious because of the difference in the value of the two currencies. Thanks for the input

What does the difference between the two currencies have to do with tipping culture?
|
I believe tipping policies are the same. In my opinion, the average tip would be 15%-20%.
|
Yes tipping standards are the same,
you will receive your bill (Canadian funds) and you should tip in Canadian funds.

The value of the cdn $ versus the US $ makes no difference on tips. 15-20% in restaurants etc.
|
A dollar is worth a dollar here. The value of our dollar is only noticed when trying to buy something in the US
|
I tip 15%/20% in Canadian dollars but I believe the restaurant tax is higher in Canada than in some parts of the States. Therefore, tip on the amount before the tax is added; if the bill is $100 leave $15-20 before they add the tax to the total. In New York, the tax is 8-1/4% so I usually double the tax and then round off the amount. Hope this helps.

De plus en plus, les Americans sont fous!

tipping is about 15 %. remeber to also tip bartenders and servers, and coatcheck girls at bars and nightclubs. most tourists forget about that. That is what all that annoying coins like the loonie ($1) and toonie ($2) are for.
