Tigh-Na-Mara Resort, Vancouver Island
Has anyone ever stayed at this resort? How did you find it? I'm curious to know which accommodations are best, and what things there are to do in the area. Is is worth spending a week in the summer?

Hi Lori, I haven't stayed there but I did check out the rooms a couple years back. It looked fine, but I don't remember it being particularly remarkable.

If I had a week to spend on Vancouver Island and wanted to be by the ocean, I would without hesitation choose the Tofino area (west coast) over the east side of the island. It is one of my favorite places in the Pacific Northwest.

Lori, Tigh-Na-Mara (and the others next it) is really the sort of place people go when they don't want overstimulation by outside forces. There is the beach, numerous short hikes to waterfalls nearby for relaxing daytime things to do. There is no nightlife at all so evenings are for relaxing in your hottub with a glass of wine.........If this is what you are looking for you could have a wonderfull time. Much of their business is from Victorians travelling all of two hours to escape the worries of everyday life for a while.

Have stayed one night at the Tigh-Na-Mara. It was very nice. The log decor was charming. The time of year we were there was very peaceful. Hope to go back some day. We stayed in a one bedroom self catering unit and it was very spacious and well equiped. Had a lovely view of the water. As I remember there is a mail packet, HMR MaryRose(?) out of a towm maybe one hour away that we thought would be fun to take for a day trip. I'm not sure on the recreational facilities of the resort, but I would trust their literature. The dinner room was very nice for breakfast. I'm sure their evening meals the same. BTW we just wandered in for the night....it was a nice surprise after a long day on the Island. If I remember correctly we ordered a pizza from a local place because we were so tired.

I've stayed in a cabin and a condo suite at Tigh-Na-Mara. Don't know which you would consider better. The condo room was narrow, but newer. There's something a little phoney about the place that I can't quite put my finger on, but I think you'd enjoy your stay. I had a great dinner there once...but that was some time ago.

We had a better view from and more room in a suite in the particleboard-modern Grey Crest next door.

The beach is great to walk on when the tide is out. Unless it's warm, you'll need waterproof footwear.
