Things to do in Montreal
I will be spending a couple of days in Montreal at the end of February. What are some must-do/see things appropriate for that season (especially related to food and culture/arts)? I'm also hoping to return at the end of April, when I'll hopefully be able to take advantage of the better weather.

I don't really consider Montreal an arts mecca, but the Museum of Fine Arts on Sherbrooke is world class, and there are several are galleries in the surrounding area. There are also several art galleries in Old Montreal, as well as the very impressive Notre Dame Basilica. Food and shopping are where Montreal excels - there are probably more good restaurants per capita than any other city in North America. Although good dining an be found anywhere in the city, the Plateau area probably has the best selection of interesting ethnic restaurants, many are BYOB. Unfortunately, February will not be the best to enjoy strolling around the city. Even April can be questionable. If you need a break from the unrelenting cold, visit the Biodome in the Olympic Village, which houses a huge indoor tropical rainforest.

Both wonderful suggestions, since we'll be there 2/24-2/25! I'm a little overwhelmed by the number of activities listed for the Festival Montréal en lumière. Any that we should especially not miss?

asthma,
Yes, the choices can be overwhelming. I would try to get to an outdoor event, as it would probably be a unique experience. You may want to wait until you arrive, as the temperature may influence your plans. JQ |
If you are a fan of Cirque du Soleil, they will be presenting their new 2007 touring show at the Old Port of Montreal starting April 19 until June 3. You can purchase your tickets at www.cirquedusoleil.com
