Things not to missin Montreal & Quebec City

I am visiting Montreal & Quebec City with my Husband beginning Oct. 2oth for a week. I need some advise as what to do for 2 1/2 days while he attends a conference in Montreal. Also we then will be travelling by car to Quebec City. We don't want to miss out on the sites! SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.

What are you interested in? Montreal has great museums, including a museum of architecture, a great fine arts museum, the McCord which is a small, charming museum of Montreal history (but not at all stuffy)etc.
The old port area of Montreal is great for strolling, shopping (though lots of tacky souvenir stuff, too)
Great restaurants including all kinds of ethnic fare; Botanical Gardens, Olympic stadium, grand casino, etc. etc.
Montreal is one of may favorite places and I'm a hard to please New Yorker!

Hi Laurie,
I went on a walking tour that was really great. If you go to the main tourist office downtown and go downstairs, there is an office on the right hand side, that does the walking tours. They include a day pass for the Metro. We were very impressed with the tour and saw things we never would have found on our own. They take you to different areas, which is why they include the Metro pass.
We enjoyed wandering around Old Montreal.
Enjoy.
I used to live in Montreal. I agree go to the tourist office located in Old Montreal. Good place for a daytime and evening visit as well. Right at the Old Port and City Hall.

Add St Joseph's and Notre Dame if you are a church visitors. They are replicas of Sacre Coeur and Notre Dame in Paris. Also add Mount Royal - a mountain (big hill) in the middle of the city. Try a quick drive through Upper Westmount for beautiful homes. It's very close to downtown. Just to the west.

Stay downtown. It's an easy walk from the major site or at most a Metro drive. Beautiful, clean, quiet (rubber wheels) safe Metro.

While you'll get many restaurant suggestions, each time I return I make it a point to have Smoked Meat (sort of like corn beef) at either Moe's on the West Island, Snowdon Deli (ten minute drive from downtown on Decarie and Queen Marie) or Schwartz's on the Main (area is a bit sleezy and hard to park but safe). Also ribs at the Bar B Barn on Guy between St Catherine and Dorchester (Rene Levesque). Just west of center downtown. The best pork ribs anywhere.

The above restaurant suggestions are inexpensive certainly not romantic, do not take reservations.

If you're a steak lover try Moishe's also on the main or Gibby's in Old Montreal (prefer Gibby's). These are much more upscale. Gibby's if a few blocks of the Old Montreal sites. If you're not driving take a taxi for a fe minutes. Gibby's is in an are of cobble stone streets. In the old days it was a horse stable. Although definitely not a chain there is also a Gibby's north in the Laurentians and in Ft Lauderdale.
Oh yes. I forgot to mention. If you're visiting in October, you may want to bring with some warmer clothes.

We were there to attend a wedding the middle of Oct last year and while it was very comfortable the first few days, there was a white carpet on the ground the third day and it was pretty cool, damp and windy walking around downtown. Even during the day.
