The good and bad about Toronto

Just returned from Toronto:
Good:clean city, nice people, lots to see in a week, good food, nice hotels.
Bad: Weather, service ( not very good, but always looking for big tips), people living in the sts. ( there is a social problem in Toronto).

Thank you for your compliments about Toronto, am glad you enjoyed your trip for the most part. I dont mean to be nasty but as I was reading your message I was struck by your "bad list". Weather??? Where are you from? What did you expect? You visit a city in Canada in the winter and say the weather is bad? Sort of like going to Phoenix in the summer and complaining it is too hot; calling it "bad" weather. Yes, there were unusually late snow storms in Ontario this year, but it was still March! As to the homeless people, Toronto has a "social" problem, please name me a very large North American city that does not have a homeless problem. I'm certainly not saying it doesnt exist, it is indeed a very sad situation, but most big cities that I know also have many of the same issues.

Bad service. No lie. Those of us in Toronto are sick to death of rude and ill-mannered clerks, sales and service people.

We spent 5 days in Toronto & while we enjoyed many things about To. our dining experience was not one of them! We went to a couple of restaurants on Queen St. West & the attitude was so big it was aggravating.
Ditto for the Westin Harbor Castle.
And, Auberge du Pommier. Why do servers in To. think they are doing me a big favor???? Hello! We travel a lot & found Toronto to be the place with the most condescending restaurant personnel we have ever encountered. Anywhere!
What is it about Toronto restaurants?????

I live in Toronto and agree that servers in restaurants often seem to have an attitude. However, we did get very good service at Auberge du Pommier. My husband ordered something that didn't turn out to be at all what he expected. The quality of the food was fine, it was just the style in which it was prepared that he didn't like. When the waiter asked how we were enjoying our meals, my husband said he wasn't thrilled with his choice, although he had eaten most of it. The waiter spoke to the maitre d' who then spoke to the chef who offered to make my husband another meal from the menu! We thought the service was very good that night and really appreciated it.

I spent a pleasent weekend in Toronto in the fall a few years ago. We had the best chinese food ever. I thought the restaurants were fine and the service didn't stand out as bad. It is a very clean city and one thats pretty easy to get around in. The Canadians say its like a big but CLEAN American city.
Although I liked the city, while I was there, I couldn't help but say " Its no Montreal". Its just lanking a pulse, beat, and soul that you find in Montreal.
