Tea at Chateau Frontenac? Quebec City in mid-April?

My 13-yr.old daughter and I are thinking of going to Quebec City in mid-April (she wants to practice the French she's learned). Has anyone had high tea at the Frontenac recently? How much does it cost and is it good value for money? Also, is it crazy to go to Quebec in April, as I guess it will still be very cold (30's)? Your help is appreciated!

We tried to have tea there, but we just walked in and they were not set up for it. Apparently, you have to have reservations, so make sure you do so in advance.

I didn't post to this initially as I thought someone would have more recent experience to pass on, but since your thread hasn't seen much action, I'll add my two bits...

We had tea there during the Christmas holidays in 2003 and I wouldn't recommend it.

I didn't seem like value for what we paid ($85 for 2 of us). I've immensely enjoyed high tea at other places (in BC, Harrods in London - tho in the mid-90's) and this just didn't compare.

I don't want to sound petty, but usually there is lots of food for the two of us (finger sandwiches, petit fours, etc.) but I remember how we both ate everything and weren't particularly full.

Also the service pretended to be of high standards but wasn't. For instance, our server told us that he would be back to remove our tea leaves for us and would come back but the tea definitely steeped for too long.

We made reservations and there were a few other tables besides ours but no where near full. We sat in the lovely atrium section.

Of course, my experience isn't very recent so things might have changed since. The tour of the Frontenac was great.

Enjoy-la!
