How nice to see that everyone else seems to hate Air Canada as much as I do. I have had so many incredibly bad experiences on this airline; thier motto should be "We're not happy until you're not happy".
One of the posts above mentioned that we should allow American carriers to fly in Canada. Its interesting, but Air Canada desperately wants that scenario to happen. Because if US carriers could fly between Canadian cities, Canadian carriers would (as part of the deal) insist on being able to fly between US cities. This would allow Air Canada access to the huge US market, and they would only lose a percentage of the much smalller Canadian market. So far, it has been the American airlines, and customs officials, who have opposed a deal like this (I guess the US carriers feel thier expense/profit ratios to introduce service in Canada is not worth it).
Its a real shame-not only would we in Canada get better service, but Air Canada I'm sure would very soon go "belly-up" , to the great satisfaction of many Canadians. Because I think they would miss a key concept in competing in an open market (which they certainly dont have now)- you have to provide better service than the other guy!

To Elizabeth:

You're a fool for picking an airline based on whether it is Canadian or not. If people did that on automoviles, we'd still be driving around in those horrible old North American clunkers that breakdown every thousand miles. It was foreign competition that forced the big 3 to finally start making decent cars.

Competition is the only way to force companies to producing better goods and services. Always pick the best deal and best service. You owe Air Canada and their employees nothing. There is no such thing as a national corporation anyway. Where do you think Air Canada gets it's planes and parts from? It sure ain't Canada. Most of their employees outside Canada are hardly Canadian. They lose money, so they are not kkeepig any money in Camada.

Think about it.

Tango has a flight from Toronto - Ottawa - anytime from May 3 - June 25th for $69.00 one way...seems pretty reasonable.

Don't think US airlines are any better!
Our tickets to Vancouver this summer from the Caribbean are around US$1000.00 per adult and US$800.00 per child.
When I flew up last year American Airlines wouldn't give me a bereavment fare because the final leg of the journey was on Air Canada, even though I booked and paid AA for the whole flight. Cost of ticket $2000.00. After numerous letters they are supposedly sending me a $300 voucher. I haven't received it yet and this has been going on since June 2001.
And thats what I have to say!!

Make sure you do a cost comparison on the net. WESTJET will almost always come in lower than TANGO. Tango adds in all these extra fees. Watch the final total.
Tango @ $69 ends up being more than Westjet @ $89. I have never had a complaint or delay with Westjet.
