Taking Amtrak from Plattsburg to Montreal
Is it worthwhile taking Amtrak from Plattsburg to Montreal, in order to avoid driving into the city and save the parking fees? How long does it take ?
|
Easy enough to check on amtrak.com
Just under 4 hours, about $23. |
The Adirondack arrives at MTR about 7:11PM if things go well at the customs stop at the border.
The Fairmont- Queen Elizabeth is pretty high class ($189/night) is next to the station. With your car you'd probably stay someplace cheaper. |
Thank you both for your replies.
What I would really like to do is to cross the border in my car, then, leave my car at a rail or bus station and travel the rest of the way to Montreal via train, metro or bus. Is this possible ? |
Of course it is possible.
Why you would want to turn a 2hr trip into a day trip, just to save a few bucks, is hard to understand, but it is possible. Mark |
My primary reason is to avoid having my elderly husband navigating the traffic in the city and to see as much of the countryside as possible. You can't see anything if you are trying to pay attention to traffic and avoid having an accident. We have parked at hotels on previous trips, years ago and found that the parking lot is sometimes a block or more away from the hotel and not even that secure, or else trying to park in their underground garage is like trying to pack sardines in a can.

There really isn't any countryside worth seeing between Plattsburgh and Montreal.
Hotel Ruby Foo's is right off the Autoroute 15/Decarie Boulevard, (exit Jean Talon) It is the highway you take into Montreal after you cross the Champlain Bridge, essentially a straight highway run from the Lacolle border crossing to this hotel. It has outside parking and Namur Metro station is a two minute walk. It gets decent reviews on Trip Advisor. http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Revi...c.html#REVIEWS Mark |
Thanks to all for your responses. We've decided to take Amtrak to Montreal and stay in the Hotel Bonaventure.

Have a good trip!
