Stay away from Toronto June 24 - 27

Unless you are an international politician or senior public servant with a limo, a driver anda police escort, stay away from Toronto from June 24-27, when the G20 conference hits Toronto.

Huge road closures, transit delays, lots of tourist things blocked off by several layers of fences, and the good hotels all booked anyway.

Via trains will not come into the city. passengers will be deposited in Oakville to the west, other places to the north and east.

Considerable delays before then, as fences and blockades, etc. are installed. probbly lesser delays afterwards as blockades are removed.

Cottage country north of Toronto will be all messed up similarly before June 24, for the Gu8 conference in Huntsville.

DO NOT FORGET to come and visit after the mess is over.

I was at the Westin this week and yes, they were setting up for the G20 summit. Fencing, etc. but only certain areas are affected. The Watermark pub/restaurant just down the street from there said it was business as usual.

I second BAK - it will be awful downtown.
I am avoiding it like the plague.

The city isn't shutting down completely though it's wise to avoid downtown in the area of the convention centre but that hasn't stopped the ACC from opening for an Andre Rieu concert.

The jazz festival is on that weekend. http://torontojazz.com/

ROM walks are still on: http://www.rom.on.ca/programs/rom_tr...k_2010_map.pdf

Made the mistake one year of being in Toronto during the Pope's visit. I can only imagine how much worse the G20 Summit will be.

The pope's visit was only mildly annoying in comparison to the G20 mess. And at least during the pope's visit I got to practice my Spanish and French - giving directions on the TTC and GO train.
