Stanley Park Storm
Hi!
My family and I were planning a vacation to Stanley Park but I am concerned about the recent storm damage in the area. I need to book hotel rooms soon but will we be able to do the things we have planned? My family wants to ride bikes in Stanley Park, walk along the seawall, and hike in the rain forest. Will this be possible in June? Are there other parks in the area that didn't suffer so much damage? Should we change our plans? Will it take longer than 5 months to clean up the park? Thanks, Sonne |
Everything that can be cleaned up has been cleaned up-all roads and trails are now open.
The exception is a short section of the seawall which will need to be rebuilt-by hand. |
I haven't been up there since the storm, Sam, but from watching Canada Now on CBUT a person who does not live in YVR would never suspect that the rehab is as far advanced as you suggest. I hope you are right, and I know that local TV lives on disaster and foreboding rather than good news, but I would do a lot of web surfing before traveling to the city with Stanley Park in mind.

Start here (that's what I should have done before questioning Sam's post):

You may not be able to go all the way around the seawall by summer, but during the week after Christmas (so shortly after the storm) I walked the section from English Bay to where it was closed and was able to go a little further than the Sequoia Grill (the old teahouse at Ferguson Pt). So that's still several miles of walking or biking and I would imagine there's quite a bit of the seawall on the harbor side as well that you can still do.
