Springhill Suites Old Montreal
 

Has anyone stayed at this proprety located at 445 St Jean Baptiste? What were your thoughts? How is the location? I'm using the rest of my Marriott points for a 3 night stay in September. I'm booked in a junior suite with balcony.

I really wanted to stay at the W, but it does not open until the end of September.

I'm curious too. The location looks good .

Yes, they anticipate a late September opening. I actually spoke with a young lady at the hotel earlier in the week. Visit www.whotels.com for additional information.

The location is good for access to Old Montreal, but the street itself is nondescript and the hotel is neither a full-service hotel nor as upscale as a W.

You might consider either the InterContinental or the St James. They're both full-service and first-rate hotels on the edge of Old Montreal.

I'm wondering if anyone has stayed in the suite with balcony or terrace, as mjz asked about. I've just booked a terrace room for August. The reviews on tripadvisor of this place are all good, but I haven't seen much about the terrace. Help anyone?

We did make it to Montreal and stayed at the Springhill for 3 nights. It was very nice, nicer I suspect than the norm. We had a deluxe king with a balcony, which was large (from the floor plan, it seemed that 2 rooms had larger balconies than the others with balconies) with a small table and 2 chairs. Not much of a view, but nice to be able to sit outside. The bathroom had tile in the bath, not a plastic surround. The only real issue was that the toilet paper holder was unreachable from the toilet, but that was remedied by removing the roll. The room size is ok for 2 people but I wouldn't want to have 3 in it. The location is very nice for Old Montreal and about a 4-5 block walk from the Metro. We ate in Old Montreal only 1 night and would highly recommend getting out of there to eat. If you've got any specific questions, I'll be happy to try to answer them.

RuthMC - Thanks for the comments. I hope you had an enjoyable trip. I'm using Marriott points for my stay. Do you have any comments on the full service Marriott versus Springhill Suites? The full service Marriott has released more rooms for the dates of my visit.

Hi Ruth, what were your problems eatingin Old Montreal - price, touristy ? We were going to eat in the casino one nite and Gibby's another. Any good?

maryann, Gibby's is always a treat, many montrealers go there once in a while....

L'Epicier is excellent also; I have not tried out many restaurants in Old Montreal . Other posters might have other recommendations. Pavarotti is a good italian place there.

We didn't get to the full service Marriott, so I can't comment on it directly. One difference is that you probably don't get breakfast at the full service, but if you're on a low-carb diet, that's not an issue.

We ate at Bonaparte's in Old Montreal and the food was very good but everyone in the dining room seemed to be a tourist or business person. The first night we ate at Brunoise on St. Andre near the Parc LaFontaine and it was excellent--more of a modern fusion menu. The last night we ate at Maestro SVP on St. Laurent for seafood, which was very good and we had fun watching the passing scene on St. Laurent. Lots of restaurants and clubs in that area. In both those restaurants, there were definitely locals. Interetingly, a staff person there recommended L'Epicier also, but we were out of nights. But as this was our first trip to Montreal, I can only comment on the restaurants we ate in.
