SPECIAL TIME IN TOFINO?

We are looking forward to our ten-year anniversary that we will be spending in Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Can anybody recommend a good restaurant to go to? I have researched the Pointe Restaurant at Wickaninnish Inn and I have mixed feelings about it. Are there other alternatives? Any advice would be appreciated. Someone recommended a "Rain something cafe" - can you help. This is a very special occasion for us.

Leigh

Hi Leigh, the Raincoast Cafe is very good, but it's also quite informal, so I'm not sure how much of a "special occasion" restaurant it is.

If you'll be there in the summer time, look into having dinner at the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, about a half hour water taxi ride from Tofino. They serve dinner to non-guests on an "as available" basis, but if you call them and tell them it's your 10-year anniversary, perhaps they will accommodate you. You might want to also make sure that Tim Mays is still the chef there. If so, it definitely rivals the Pointe in the excellence of its cuisine and since it's a floating resort in the middle of nowhere, it's a rather special experience as well.

All the meals I've had at the Pointe have been excellent, by the way, although it's a bit over the top in its formality for Tofino, I think.

Leigh: Since it is your anniversary, I think you have to go to the Pointe at Wickaninnish Inn. The site is spectacular in any weather, and although overpriced, it will be still be one of those dinners you won't forget in a long time. Tell them it's your anniversary, and you would like a window seat. Afterwards, you can for a romantic walk on the beach!!!

I would definitely vote for the Pointe. Beautiful view and sublime food. Truly a special occasion place!
