Shopping in Vancouver?
 

What are some of the great shops/boutiques and department stores right now in Vancouver. For those familiar I'm looking for things like Ted Baker, Nordstrom, stuff you would buy on ShopBop.com, etc. Thanks!

Vancouver has lots and lots of great shopping.

I guess Canada's version of a Nordstrom's would be Holt Renfrew or The Bay's downtown store. Maybe Leone's (MUCH smaller than a department store) on West Hastings. Don't know what a Ted Banker or ShopBop is.

Yaletown, parts of Main Street, some of Gastown these days, West Broadway - they all yield current designers. Robson Street is fun for mostly chain fashion stores like Zara's, The Gap, etc.

Take a look at vanmag.com/buys.html for an overview of Vancouver shopping, restaurants, neighbourhoods, etc. Vancouver Magazine isn't always bang on, but it's a good start.

I'd also suggest "South Granville" - btwn W 5th Ave and W 16th Ave. This is just over the bridge from downtown.

It is a concentration of high-end fashion boutiques (Boboli, Bacci, etc.), home furnishings, restaurants and art and antique galleries.

There's even a Tilley's on 8th if you decide you need travel-wear...LOL!

Try South Granville. There are a few boutiques there that sell similar stuff to what you might find on shopbop. Misch is great and Cattiva is good too. There are a few other. more recent, arrivals but I don't know the names yet.

Also, Holt Renfrew is good (but it'll be better next srping when the new, gigantic store opens!).

Yaletown also has some neat little places - Lola, Atomic Model....

Try The Block or Richard Kidd in Gastown.

Also a really up-and-coming area is Main Street around 20th Ave. - check out Eugene Choo, Barefoot Contessa.

If you're into shoes, you might try Gravity Pope on 4th Avenue, in Kitsilano. The shoes are a little too funky for me to consider actually wearing, but they're works of art.

That stretch of 4th Avenue has a good bookshop (Duthie's), a good music shop (The Magic Flute) wine shop (fI orget the name, but it's next door to Duthie's) and various other small shops that are well worth dropping in.

Kitsilano, nicknamed Kits, is the funky, eccentric part of town with all of the avant garde little shops. It is a fun place, great little restaurants. But, if I was going to shop for something that I would actually wear, I would shop in downtown Vancouver. Pacific Place is a wonderful first stop - the tea at Murchie's is divine! There are many boutiques in the vicinity, mostly all upscale and world-class, and shopping is similar to what you'd find in Manhattan or Beverly Hills.

Definitely take a taxi and eat lunch at the Pan Pacific Hotel - there is a little cafe-style restaurant, but I actually prefer the service and views in the lobby bar with floor to ceiling windows in an atrium style.

Yaletown is a revitalized area of Vancouver with many luxury condos overlooking False Creek. Granville Island is a superb Farmer's Market-style shopping. I would advise staying away from Gastown because it is getting quite close to the low end of town in East Vancouver.

I'll second Gravity Pope on 4th as a good spot for shoes!

West 4th does have some good shops but not too much along the lines of what the OP seems to want, judging from her mention of shopbop etc.

Pacific Centre and Robson street also have good shopping but a lot of it is chain stores like Gap, Banana Republic etc.
One shop on Robson that fits the bill of what the OP is looking for is Plenty - check out getplenty.com

I wouldn't say that Vancouver has tons of great shopping compared to the US, but it's pretty good as far as Canada goes.

Also check out the Lucky magazine website (luckymag.com) - it has shopping guides for tons of cities all over the world and did feature Vancouver a few years ago.

Hill's of Kerrisdale might be similar to what stormygirl's looking for. They're not downtown, but it's still in Vancouver, about a 20 minute drive south-west of downtown: http://www.hillsofkerrisdale.com

Also, many of the shops up along Main Street (between Broadway all the way south to E 30th, approximately) have lots of unique independent boutiques selling things you'll never dream of seeing on Robson or in the malls.

Vancouver is an easy place to shop !! My wife can't wait to get back ( my credit card can wait though !)
