Seeking advice on Whistler

Hi, would appreciate any suggestions that anyone has on a short trip to Whistler. Any preferences or experiences on accomodations - Whistler Chateau, Whistler Four Seasons, Westin, Pan Pacific? Restaurants that are casual with a nice Canadian menu? Also, what is the activity level like on a Sunday? Thanks - we're headed there this weekend (Labor Day).

Hi Hk,
The Four Seasons is getting rave reviews. Rates vary from $159 a night at the Pan to $425 a night at the Four Seasons, although the Four Seasons has a stay two get third free, so you get 3 nights with breakfast included for $900.
This weekend should be very busy , since it is the last long weekend before school starts. the bike park and gondola for sightseeing is still open, there is a farmers and crafts market on Sunday, and for street entertainment this weekend , there is a psychic theme???I don't know who came up with that for the long weekend?? The weather is supposed to be good, the golf courses are in great shape, and the patios are still busy. It's probably a good idea to make dinner reservations in advance. have a great weekend . Cheers, Al

We just stayed at the Westin this last weekend and really enjoyed it. Everyone was so friendly and accomodating, and the room was really nice (junior suite). I loved the location as well. It was great to be able to walk to everything in the village. The Pan Pacific is also in an ideal location. We checked out the Fairmont and the Four Seasons, both of which are very beautiful, but in the end, we were glad we stayed right in the village with everything very close-by.

The only really wonderful place that we ate at was Araxi. It's pricy, but it was worth it. We saw people dressed in all sorts of attire - from jackets to t-shirts and everyone seemed equally as comfortable.

The only bad meal that we had was at La Bosca, and actually, it was just my meal. My husband and I both ordered steaks, medium, and mine came back like shoe leather. I reluctantly sent it back because I just couldn't eat it. The server came back shortly with a steak so undercooked that it was cold in the middle! I ate what I could around the edges, but it was apparent that they had rushed this steak out. The server said that when she saw me cut into it that she knew she wouldn't have been able to eat it either. In the end, they didn't charge me for the steak, which was nice, but I left hungry!

Enjoy your trip - you'll have a great time! Be sure to go ziptreking - it's a real thrill and a great way to get up close and personal with the scenery!

We just came back from BC, and we stayed 1 night at the Westin Whistler.
We had a jr. suite with a mini kitchen and it was really nice. The pool and hot tub was very small. I was surprised considering the size of the hotel and our room didn't have a jacuzzi tub which was a little disappointing. We checked out the other hotels as well and the Fairmont Chateau was more formal looking, but very nice. The Four Seasons is very new and really nice, very modern decor and free ice tea and lemonade in the lobby. All the hotels are pretty much within walking distances to everything. We had dinner at a delicious crepe place in the village. I think it's called LaMontague (not sure). They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Araxi restaurant looked interesting, and heard it's pretty good, but pricey. Whistler Mountain area has alot of mountain biking going on, where Blackcomb Mountain area had the farmers market and activities for the kids. Have fun!

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions and help. Stayed at the Four Seasons in Whistler -- the hotel was fantastic - it is beautifully furnished, both public areas and the rooms - rooms in the west building have incredible views. Service and hospitality was outstanding; not like some "luxury" hotels which are staffed by "seasonal" employees. Also visited Vancouver and stayed at the Wedgewood Hotel - service was wonderful and the room was beautifully appointed (Frette linens and upscale toiletry products, beautiful tapestry on bed); request a view overlooking the Robson gardens if you do book there. The location was fantastic. Would return to both places in a heartbeat.
