Seeking advice on possible Ski Vaca using Rad Hot springs, BC as a base

Greetings! The Dear Family wants a ski vacation first week of jan '12 and I may have an opportunity to exchange through II for a condo at Big Horn Meadows resort in Radium Hot Springs, BC, which appears attractive. www.bighornmeadows.com Have never travelled through BC so I know nothing of this area.
Would appreciate any thoughts of the geographic feasibility of using this town as a base for a ski vacation, and also, does anyone know anything about this particular resort? Thanks

If you don't mind a bit of driving each day, a ski vacation is certainly feasible from Radium. The closest major resort is Panorama, about a 35-40 minute drive. Kicking Horse just outside Golden is about an hour and a quarter away. The skiing at both is excellent.

Thanks, Turns out we will be going to a "Grand Canadian" resort in Canmore, Alberta. This option popped up at the last minute, and is closer to Calgary and Banff. Maybe a bit less luxurious thant he other options, but given my lack of familiarity with the area, seemed to be the better option.
Anone have any experience with this?

You have quite a few choices from Canmore. In Banff NP, Norquay, Sunshine, and Lake Louise are all within an hour's drive from Canmore and you can get a tri-area pass for all three resorts. Nakiska, the site of the 1988 Olympic alpine events in Kananaskis park, is about a half-hour away. Kicking Horse is about an hour and a half drive from Canmore. Depending on snow and weather conditions, I would try Sunshine and Lake Louise.

If you don't want to drive, there are shuttles to most of these resorts from Canmore.

If you are interested in cross-country skiing, Canmore is the site of the Canmore Nordic Centre, developed for the 1988 Olympics.
