Seattle Washington to Vancouver

We are planning on flying in to Seattle and renting a car. We would like to see Vancouver, also. What do we need to cross the border? Do we need a passport, or will an enhanced driver's license work? Thanks!

Unless you are planning on this trip within the next 60 days, you should get the passports IMO. They are good for 10 years and will allow you to fly to other countries. If you can afford to fly to SEA and stay in hotels, the passports are just an incidental expense. Rather than driving a rental car across the border, consider taking an Amtrak bus or train from King St. station in Seattle to Vancouver.

Thanks for the info. We had decided to get passports in case we wanted to travel internationally in the future. I love your idea of taking the Amtrak train.

amtrak train is slow and boring and not that scenic, especially if the weather is bad. also having the car will increase your ability to visit different parts of Vancouver more efficiently. traffic and parking can be annoying in Vancouver but it's worth it. also makes you trip between Seattle & BC more leisurely. stop when and where you want.

If you love flying you may want to treat yourself to a floatplane flight between Seattle and Vancouver.
