Seattle,Victoria,Vancouverw/2 teenagers on a budget

We will be flying into Seattle on July 1 and hope to see Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver before flying out of Seattle on July 7. Any suggestions on places to go and the best way to get there with a 17 and 19-year-old? We have no reservations for anything--hotel, car or ferry. Thought about taking care of this when we flew in but now I'm getting a little nervous and don't feel prepared enough. Suggestions especially on a limited budget? We love the water and thought the SanJuan Islands would be where we would concentrate our travels between places.

I would rent a car and drive up to Anacortes, then take the WA State ferry (http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/) to one or more of the San Juan Islands. Specifically, I would recommend Friday Harbor (San Juan Island), and Orcas Island. You could spend a day or two on each before continuing your trip to Sidney, on Vancouver Island. Reservations are a must if you want to get your car onto a particular ferry - otherwise you will wait many hours for the next boat.

From Sidney, its a very short drive to Victoria, which is a great place to visit. Depending on time, you could drive up the west coast of Vancouver Island to Tofino for spectacular coastal views.

You can then drive up the east side of the island to take a B.C. ferry (http://www.bcferries.com/) back to the mainland - the Swartz Bay ferry is very close to Victoria, and will take you to Tsawwassen, south of Vancouver. Alternatively, drive further north to Nanaimo, then take the ferry either to Tsawassen or Horseshoe Bay, which is close to downtown Vancouver. Reservations on these ferries aren't nearly as important, because they go much more frequently.

You could reverse this trip if that would help.

I would definitely make reservations for places to stay in the San Juan Islands (http://sanjuanislands.kulshan.com/Wa...ng/default.htm). If you stay just outside of Victoria, you can find some good deals on inexpensive motels. The same for Vancouver.

Some fun places to visit:
San Juan Island - Lime Kiln Point, British Camp, American Camp
Orcas Island - Mt. Constitution, Cascade Lake
Victoria - Provincial Museum, Parliament Bldg
Vancouver - Stanley Park, Capilano Bridge, False Creek, Grouse Mtn
