Sault Ste Marie

How can I get from Toronto to Sault Ste. Marie? Is it worth going? I've been looking at the VIA Rail website and have found different routes, but none with Sault Ste Marie on it.
Thanks

Cristina, you can take the Greyhound bus. It takes approx 10hrs 45 min though.

See www.greyhound.ca

oops, posted too soon.

You could fly too. Toronto (YYZ) to Sault Ste Marie (YAM)..

www.aircanada.ca for more info. Not sure if Westjet flies there.

Answering the second question about whether it is worth going, it would not be high on my list of destinations. The locks are interesting, but it's too far to go for that. If you have wheels, the St. Ignace-Mackinac Island area is a lot more picturesque. Also Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore along Lake Superior in Upper Michigan is impressive.

You didn;t mention when you were thinking of traveling. Unless you are going for winter sports, I would wait now until late April or May.

While in the Soo, I recomend taking the lighthouse boat trip on the St. Marie's River.

http://www.sff.net/people/sfreader/trp.htm includes the ride as part of a longer report and has 4 pictures from the tour (as well as photos from the Straits of Mackinac).

Keith

Heck, we'll get a good time figured out for you no matter what! Try this site:

http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/fs_packages.html

It's a very popular train trip out of Sault Ste. Marie.
