Salt Spring Island
 

I am starting some research on places to stay on Salt Spring Island. Hastings House looks great but seems to be booked all of September. Does anyone have suggestions? Apple Farm Inn also looked pretty nice. Is September (weeks 2&3) a particularly busy time on Salt Spring? Is Hastings House worth changing travel times for?

I've been to Salt Spring numerous times, and each time have rented a cottage or stayed at a b&b. I'm not sure how long you're planning to stay, but you might want to look into those possibilities. Hastings House is pricy - I don't know much about it other than that, except that the dining room is considered quite wonderful by a lot of people - except for a friend of mine who's a restaurant critic! To my mind, the charm of Salt Spring is the whole island, rather than the atmosphere at any of the resort-type hotels.

Hi, Pam - I'm trying to remember. We've mostly rented cottages, two of which I could definitely recommend, but you're only staying for a few days. Let me think about this for a bit and I'll post as soon as I can give you some real info!

Okay, Pam - I've had a little trip through my memory banks. We've actually only rented cottages on Salt Spring, although we've stayed at B&Bs on a couple of the other islands. I wouldn't hold out for Hastings House; there are lots of other pleasant places to stay. Sorry I can't be of more help. I hope you're planning to be there on a Saturday - the Saturday market is not to be missed!

I would highly suggest a beautiful B&amp;B called Anne's Oceanfront Hideaway. It is fairly new (built only about 5-6 years ago) and only has 4 beautifully decorated rooms. It was rated in a travel magazine as one of the most romantic places to share a kiss. It is wonderfully positioned on the ocean and every room has an ocean view and most with a private balcony so you can watch the sun go down. The hosts are Rick and Anne. They are know for their friendly hospitality and for having the most amazing breakfasts. You won't need any lunch. I would also suggest not eating at Hastings House but at House Picalo. It was great. <BR><BR>My husband and I stayed in the Honeymoon suite and it was one of the most romantic weekends we have shared - beautiful room, great view, amazing food, and hospitality.
