Safe Hotel near Canada Place?
Looking to bid on PriceLine for a hotel for our one night --our cruise leaves the next day from 999 Cancada Place. Downtown seems most convenient. Is it safe? What about the entertainment district? I'm batting blind here and would appreciate advice. Thanks

Yes, it's safe, and you're right - downtown would be the most convenient. The "entertainment district" usually refers to Granville Street which is also downtown. It's a strip of nightclubs, bars, retail shops and cheap pizza joints that cater mostly to college kids. Nobody here really calls it the entertainment district, for what it's worth - I think Priceline calls it that to make it sound more glamourous than it really is.
Saying that - anywhere on the downtown peninsula will be safe and convenient. The downtown peninsula consists of the downtown core as well as neighbourhoods like Yaletown, Coal Harbour, and the West End. This is a very tiny, compact area full of hundreds of restaurants, hotels, shops, apartments, etc and all of it's within a 10 minute taxi ride to Canada Place or less. |
Fer heaven's sake, downtown Vancouver is amazingly safe in that NORMAL people are roaming the streets all night long in numbers like in no other North American city.
NOT that you should go down especially darkened alleys or streets, but don't hesitate to roll the dice with whatever Priceline gives you in the way of a 3-star or 4-star hotel. |
Thanks so much, I will try right now!

Ahhh... good price...
(reaches for map) http://www.greatervancouverhotels.co...ctions-map.htm Oh, good, the location is both near enough and far enough from Robson, and near enough and far enough from Granville. NOW you need only deal with the pressures of ONLY ONE NIGHT... and trying to see what you can... (a) A circuit of Stanley Park (b) Up & down Robson day or evening (c) Up & down Granville (depending upon your taste) I have no idea where I'd eat - so let somebody else give you their ideas. |
Actually, this one is easy. We are getting together with one of my husband's colleagues (not only is he quite dear, but his wife and I had a great time touring Toronto tegether as conference wives a few years ago). He will give us a tour and then bring us home for dinner. We are quite fortunate and I am delighted to put us in someone else's hands (and home).
And now, to pack! I will submit a report in a couple of weeks. |
