Romantic Restaurants and What Else? - Old Quebec City

We are going to celebrate our 14th anniversary w/ 3 days early August in QC, and we are staying at Auberge St. Antoine. I've read several reviews for restaurants, and I'm torn as to where to book for our anniversary dinner. We are an active early 50's couple -we don't need formal and don't like stuffy - we do like delicious inventive food, great views, etc. Any suggestions for the anniversary dinner, as well as other meals? We plan to get there in time for lunch on Monday, and will leave Quebec City after lunch on Weds, so we have 2 dinners and 3 lunches to 'play with' .. any suggestions, or places to avoid? How easy is it to let serendipity and spontaneity reign, and just walk out one evening and find a nice quiet beautiful place w. really nice food and ambiance? Any other sugestions for what to do while were there?

H-m-m, at high season for tourists, I am afraid that planning is key if you want something special. Perhaps you could pick two or three restaurant destinations that appeal from a quick surf here or on Chowhound and then visit them on your first morning? Don't dismiss the Chateau Frontenac restaurants, BTW. If you book a table by the window of either the bar or the grand dining room (nice for brunch) the view is charming.

I'd have no trouble recommending Café du Clocher Penché. What it lacks on the view front, it more than makes up in its food.

Thanks! good to know. i've also been told laurie raphaelle is lovely, and that cafe du monde would be fun on the terrace for lunch..

One suggestion Le Toast, inventive cuisine and a nice terrace. Anyplace you go a reservation is a must
