Ritz Carlton or Loew's Vogue in Montreal
We are planning a weekend visit to Montreal. I was planning to stay at the Ritz Carlton, given its high rating by Conde Nast which said the rooms were refurbished. However, some Fodorites claim the rooms are "tired." Now we will choose between the Ritz Carlton and the Vogue (Loew's). Please let us know about the two hotels: location, service, rooms, etc. Thanks.

My choice of those two would be the Vogue.
Location is ok..although I prefer being on Sherbrook or nearby. Vogue has no view, but it is around the corner from Catherine St (shopping) and Peel (eating).
Have you considered the Sofitel? Beautiful and in a good spot.

Just returned today from 4 days at the Vogue. No comparison between it and the Ritz. The Ritz definitely is not on par with other Ritz hotels. If those are your two choices, I would say the Vogue is the one then. Happy visit to Montreal!

The Ritz might have been refurbished; it needed it, I haven't stayed there since 2000. It can't be beat for location and service, the ritz is the ritz; we are going to a xmas party there next week, the ballrooms are astounding.
I've stayed at the Vogue and enjoyed it, nice bathrooms, their restaurant and bar are good. The Vogue has a wonderful location also, de la Montagne street is very nice; 2 blocks up and you are on Sherbrooke street.
A new and interesting restaurant is Cavalli, on Peel street , north of de Maisonneuve; it's my new favorite. Great food and design.
The Vogue has a younger clientele I think.
Both are excellent choices if the Ritz has updated their room decor.
