Brian, my husband and I spent 5 nights at the Rimrock this past June and loved our stay. The location was perfect for us. The cost of staying at the Rimrock over the Chateau I believe would be much less (unless the Chateau is offering great ski packages). All sights, hiking, activities, etc., can be done from either the Rimrock or the Chateau (only about 45 minutes drive) however, as far as dining w/children, I think there is more to offer in Banff. I would recommend the Rimrock over the Chateau (also I think the rooms in the Rimrock are larger than the Chateau - the Chateau's location is magnificent but I believe so is the cost). However, you are planning a "ski" vacation and I've read that some of the best skiing is right outside the doorstep of the Chateau Lake Louise. So if you do not care to be driving back and forth from Rimrock (and cost is not an issue) for skiing, then the Chateau would be your best bet. Although I must add, I do not know what skiing is offered right outside the Rimrock! Whichever you choose, I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time - Enjoy!
