restaurants in quebec city

Hi,

Travelling to Quebec City in November. Staying at Dominion 1912. Any thoughts about restaurants are welcome - looking for French and traditional quebecois fare, any price range.

Thanks!

Lucky you! We just got back from QC and stayed at Dominion 1912. It's lovely. By far, our favoirte place to eat Quebecois fare was at Bistro Clocher Penche in the St Roch neighborhood outside the walls. The folks at Dominion will gladly make reservations there for you(it is apparently a favorite among staff as well).

We did eat at Laurie Raphael and were underwhelmed if you can believe that.

Another tip..head to the bar-longue at the Cahteau Frontenac and try to get a seat by the window. The views are lovely.

My husband and I loved Panache! Food quality and wine selection is top notch. Relaxing ambience is also a plus.

Thanks for the info, you two - we will definitely check out these restaurants. Happy to hear of your good experience at Dominion 1912, Pam SF, and it's helpful to know that Laurie Raphael didn't come through for you (well, helpful for us and others - sorry about your less-than-stellar experience). msm4

Hi,

There are several restaurants right near Dominion that are high on our list.
My favorite and has been for several years now is Initiale a 2 minute walk from your hotel. Very expensive, but some of the most memorable meals I have ever had.
Echaude a minute or so from hotel. Great little French Bistro.
Le Café du Monde also only a couple minutes to walk to. Sorry don't have adresses handy at the moment. Another bistro and a great steak tartare. And they make a great martini!:)
I can go on and on. My partner and I spend a week each December to get into the Christmas mode. We now rent an apartment in the Old Port and for the most part, eat mostly in that area as well.
Any other info needed, please feel free to ask!:)

Merci, Huss417! Le Cafe du Monde is already on our list and we have heard L'Echaude well-spoken of, too. Initiale sounds interesting, especially if we are too cold to walk very far...
