Restaurants in Kits or Granville Island?
 

Any restaurant suggestions for dinner in the Kits area or Granville Island area?

Bishops restaurant in the Kits area is top notch in food and service.

There are lots and lots of little restaurants in the Kits area, especially on 4th Avenue. Many of them are within walking distance of each other and Kits Beach. Any particular cuisine or atmosphere you are looking for?

I'm not looking for super fancy but not rock bottom cheap either. I'm most interested in a place that has good food and a fun atmosphere.

Opal, if you don't mind a little bit of walking to enjoy the view at a bit of a leisurely pace, then you would like to stroll along 4th Avenue or Cornwall Avenue (they are parallel to each other) to check out the restaurants. Most of them depend on walk-by traffic, and sometimes staff stand outside with food samples. Check mapquest.com to look at the area. Use 1100 Chestnut (that's the Vancouver Museum) as a point of reference. Granville Island is just to the right (east), and Kits beach is just to the left. <BR>If you cannot afford the time to stroll, then try:<BR>- Keg Restaurant - steaks, ribs, and seafood West Coast style<BR>- Sirloiner - same as Keg but better view and they have a buffet<BR>- Monk McQueen's Seafood &amp; Oyster Bar - a young crowd hangout<BR>All 3 of these are on Granville Island.

Monk McQueens is not on Granville Island but is in the False Creek Area about 1 K East of Granville Island. It's quite good though and worth the trip. <BR><BR>The Yew &amp; Cornwall area just off Kits Beach has about a half dozen Restaurants &amp; Pubs in one block and is a popular spot with the Kits residents.

I love the Thai House at about 5th Avenue and Burrard in the Kits area. The atmosphere is nothing special but the food is fantastic and reasonably priced.<BR><BR>At Granville Island, I would recommend the Sandbar. It is a nice restaurant with good food, a bar and, on the weekends I believe, dancing. Late twenties to thirtysomething crowd.

I would second the recommendation for the Sandbar on Granville Island -- a fun atmosphere, youngish crowd (I'm 42 and didn't feel too old!). It's a bit of a pick up joint, great if you are single. The Cat's Meow on Granville Island is also good, but the music tends to be a bit loud at times. An upbeat place on 4th Ave is Las Margaritas - food is OK, its atmosphere is good - always busy on a Friday and Saturday evening. As previously mentioned there is a lot of restaurants on 4th ave...you could walk down the street from Burrard going West and choose after browsing all the menu's.

By the way Ken....your info in very out of date!! I wander 4th Ave for dinner at least once a week and have NEVER had a vender offer me free samples. (when does this happen?) Also, the Sirloiner on Granville Island has been out of business for at least a couple of years. A restaurant had opened in its place, but went under (the deep-fried menu was not popular). Earlier this year Sammy J Peppers opened, it seems popular with families (more deep fried stuff plus pizza, salmon etc.).

OK Darlene, I will admit to being a resident of suburbia, and only really come into town every once in a while. But during the summer months, I like bringing the family in to enjoy the atmosphere in the area. The restaurants that I mentioned had been there for a while so I assumed that they were still there. This past summer we were there for the Festival of Lights, and a waitress stood outside a restaurant that I can't remember (some strange name like Black Hell) with a sampler plate of calamari. I guess you gotta be at the right place at the right time.

Ken - I guess you are in the right place at the right time! I never seem to get the freebies, and calamari..yum! I didn't mean to be harsh..it's nice that you responded to the question. You should check out Granville Island again..lots of changes, new shops on Railspur Ave. etc. On the 21st - the first day of winter and shortest day of the year - there is going to be a lantern parade and fire dancing and other stuff. The carol ships may (or may not?) be in the area. Great night to come down for a few drinks!
