Restaurant Tips for Vancouver
We're looking for some great restaurants in the city of Vancouver. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
|
hi,
little more information would help with this request: what kind of food, ambiance are you looking for and how much money do you want to spend? P |

West, on Granville, is one of the best restaurants I've ever experienced, anywhere.
|
Salmon House on the Hill? Some like it, others don't here! ***kim*** ((r))

We're pretty open to any type of food. We love a fabulous 3-4 star restaurant with 1-2 star prices, but any restaurant that is great is what we're looking for. We'll be in Vancouver for 4 days, so we'll have lots of meals with both lunches and dinners.

Here are some Vancouver foodie-related websites:
www.chowhound.com/canada/boards (mostly Vancouver and other BC) www.chowhound.com/main.html (search "Vancover" + type of food that interest you) http://www.evevancouver.ca/food/index.htm www.vaneats.com www.vanmag.com |
My favorites:
- Cioppinos in Yaletown (Mediterranean with West Coast flair) - Vij's (11th and Granville) for unique Indian food - note you cannot make reservations for this so you arrive on Saturday at 5 pm or put your name down if you miss a table and then get 2nd seating for 7-7:30 pm. Food is worth it though. - Chambar (Belgian and must make reservations) - Bacchaus at the Wedgewood hotel - I'd try this for lunch - food is good and lunch can be less expensive. My thoughts Janine |
I agree that Bacchus for lunch is a wonderful way to spend an early afternoon. (Somehow it just doesn't do it for me for dinner. Not sure why.)
For dinner Lumiere and Quatro are also popular, but, as I suggest above, West is better for my money. Bishop's is a perennial favorite among Vancouverites, but I've never been. |
If you are interested, my company called Edible Vancouver provides food minded travellers with reservations, personalized special menus, guided and un-guided food tours, corporate accomodation prices, and more for people coming to Vancouver. Rain City Grill!

Here's some more suggestions:
*Feenies (cheaper/more casual sister of Lumiere)on Broadway *Phnom Phenh (Cambodian/Vietnamese -off Chinatown) *Chambard (new Belgian hotspot) on Beatty *Shabusan (great all-U-can eat sushi/Korean grill) on Burrard or S.Granville or you can go upscale with Tojo's on Broadway *Sun Sui Wah (Cantonese)on Main |
The Beachhouse was recommended by Fodorites to my group of eight. We loved it! We had been hiking in Whistler for a week and it was just the place to sit, enjoy great food, charming ambiance, and dynamite desserts! Highly recommended.
|
Though the following aren't restaurants, they're great casual meals-on-the go or treats.
Here are a few very inexpensive favorites for my family - *Steamed buns (chicken /BBQ pork) and apple tarts from New Town Bakery in Chinatown on Pender St *Pajo's fish n'chips on the docks in Steveston (you will need a car), otherwise Go Fish off the seawall by Granville Island *Fruit slushies (with tapioca balls & coconut meat) from Dragon Ball Tea House off Oak (on King Edward Ave) *Coffee/cappucinos at Cafe D'Artiagano |
Thanks for all the great suggestions! Looks like we'll have plenty of good eatin' to pick frmm.

Best Veggie food...The Naam on 4th Ave.
http://www.thenaam.com/naam/ We went twice during our 3 day stay and will be going back when we will be driving thru Vancouver in May. |
LOL!!
Wherever '<i>Cedar</i>' is from the food must be truly awful <b>The Naam is a notorious bastion of bad food, worse service and generally grubby conditions.</b> In a city with an astounding choice of eating places there is no need for anyone to subject themselves to the mediocrity that the Naam epitomises. |
Sam
We were there twice in May and the food was excellent and good strong coffee. I am very particular about good food and cleanliness. Maybe you should take a risk and return. But, if you are looking for animals, you better not. |
topping for later consumption. no pun intended.
