Restaurant Recommendations for Winnipeg

I live in Arizona and I've never been to Winnipeg Canada. But, I have very close friends who live there and they are about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Now, I would like to take this wonderful couple out to dinner. But, I don't have a clue where to send them. So, PLEASE help me out here.

A few things to consider: The Couple. Naturally, they are in their late 60's and early 70's. They are FUN, they are ALIVE, they are CANADIANS -- they are current. Because this is their 50th, I want them to experience exceptional service (I want them pampered), delicious food in an interesting place. They both enjoy all kinds of food -- his heritage is Ukrainian and her's French-ish. They have lived in Winnipeg their entire married lives.
They are hardworking, spirited and playful.

I considered a dinner theater but wasn't too impressed with what I was able to find out about the local theater company -- or, at least, what they have online. So, that's out.
Unless, you know more about that experience and can provide clearer details.

I would like to find a place with excellent entertainment/live music. Any ideas?

I was born in Winnipeg, but it's been several decades since I've been there. Ian Brown had an interesting article in the Globe & Mail today where he mentioned a place that he said was 'brilliant' - it's called Bobby Mottola's Pizzeria Gusto - and it sounded amazing, but it's probably not quite what you're looking for.

If I were you, I'd post on Chowhound - you might get a better response there. Good luck!

In May we had a family celebration at Tres Visi in the Exchange District. It was amazing - great food, atmosphere and attention to detail.
