Restaurant recommendation in Vancouver
 

I'm looking for a restaurant recommendation from Vancouverites. We are staying at the Wedgewood on Hornby Street and looking for a good recommendation for dinner. Looking for non Asian cuisine within walking distance of the hotel. Price is not an issue but don't want to eat somewhere too formal.

Basically anywhere downtown is within walking distance from your hotel, it all depends on what you consider walking distance.

I quite like La Brasserie on Davie which would be an approximate 10 minute leisurely walk south of your hotel.

Lots of good choices but you may not want to leave the hotel! I like the Bacchus and I noticed their Lounge/Piano Bar won a gold and their restaurant won a silver in the just published 2009 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.

My favorite restaurant in Vancouver is Le Crocodile, which is just a block or two from the Wedgewood on Smithe just past Burrard. It's classy (French/Alsatian) but not stuffy or formal.

For breakfast I recommend De Dutch Pannekoek House. It’s a chain of eateries with cute plasticized menus and decor. Food can really add up here, considering that it's mostly starch. The basic pancakes are all right, but toppings are mostly artificial or out of a can. Skippable. At east end of East Hastings in Burnaby, scads of other locations.

And for lunch and dinner, Habibi. Great concept. Small plates of high-quality Lebanese food (including some unusual items, like shinkleesh, a dynamite combo of dried marinated goat cheese and diced tomatoes), all for five dollars; attentive service in a pleasant casual space. Vegetarian, but you won't notice. Only the falafel is a disappointment; light, but not crisp enough.

If you like N.Italian 'Cin Cin' on Robson is a fav. of locals
and visiting film folk. Good food and classy surroundings.
