Restaurant at Eau Claire Market

We have a morning (or evening) to spend at Eau Claire Market in Calgary and wondered whether anyone had good restaurant recommendations?

We don't want anything fancy - our main criteria is good food. North American cuisine would be great but we're open to anything.

Thank you.

Anybody? (What is at this market anyway?)

There are a number of them there. The only one I can remember is Joey Tomatos but there are others as well as the pub/restaurant at the Sheraton Eau Claire. Eau Claire Market is really not very big and specializes in a lot of little places to buy specialty food/bakery/seafood items. It also contains the Imax Theatre. It wouldn't be my recommendation for shopping or eating if you are from out of town. But there are any number of good places to eat in the downtown area. You may want to wander around Kensington instead.

Thanks - I guess what I read about the place was misleading. The book made it sound like a very big marketplace with lots of restaurants, shops, theaters, etc.

Any recommendations for the downtown area?

It's been a while since I went to Calgary. I wish I could think of some names, offhand. Eau Claire is spread out over quite an area. Kensington area has a great little Italian place and a good Irish Pub with excellent food. I'll ask my sister, she has a better memory than I and post again.

In Eau Claire there are Joey Tomato's, which is always noisy but fun. I've never had a bad meal there. Also, the Old Spaghetti Factory is nice, I've only been there once but it's very popular. The Barley Mill is a pub there, dh has been but I haven't. These places are all popular spots after work, and esp on Fridays.

Across the bridge in Kensington there is an Italian restaurant (Osteria?), and Charlie Chan's is Chinese food, but I wouldn't recommend it.

From Eau Claire you're also very close to downtown where there are lots more restaurants. A lovely spot is Teatro, near the Olympic Plaza.

A nice spot for coffee in Eau Claire is the Good Earth Cafe. Locally owned, the food is great.
