restaurant advice

Hello, we will be in Montreal 1st weekend in July for 3 nights. Looking for great food, of course! I eat only fish or seafood. My husband will eat meat and chicken but prefers fish or seafood. We would like to try 3 different types of restaurants/food. We are leaning toward Brunoise, Les Caprices de Nicoles, Cafe Feirrera and Milos. Thoughts, feedback, or other suggestions welcome! Thanks

Ferreira is a must for fish; put that one on top of your list !! Make sure to reserve in advance. They have an almond tart for dessert that is to die for.

Milos is great; the atmosphere is pretty casual but if there are groups there, it can be loud. I go rarely

I prefer nicer smaller french places; they always have a few good fish choices.

Cavalli on Peel Street is a fabulous italian restaurant with excellent fish selections; the decor is astounding.

Guy et Dodo Moralis on Metcalfe is a small french place with excellent fish; I have sole de douvres there; I also love their grilled scampi.

Your other choices are excellent also; I'm just mentioning my personal favorites.

You did not mention where you were
staying ? I hope you enjoy your time in Montreal.

Hi Mitchdesj
I'd love to hear your suggestions on small French places. (I prefer not the fancy type!) We'll be there end of May. thanks!

Hello! I would DEFINITELY put La Brunoise on the list. It's my favourite restaurant in town and I've eaten some of the best grilled salmon EVER. Ferreira is also a great restaurant, although the prices reflect accordingly. If you like fish and nice unpretentious neighborhood restaurants, try Le Poisson Rouge(http://english.montrealplus.ca/porta...ofileID=548828) You can bring your own wine. The resto is located right across Parc Lafontaine where you can have a leisurely stroll before or after supper. I hope you will enjoy your stay in Montreal. I would'nt live elsewhere!

We will be travelling to Montreal with our almost 3 year old. She is very used to dining out in fine restaurants and behaves appropriately. She does not need a kids menu. Are these restaurants, and for that matter are most of the more upscale restaurants in Montreal OK to take her to? Any that will definitely make us feel uncomfortable for bringing her along?

I never see very young children at Ferreira's; the tables are very, very close together, I don't think I'd feel comfortable bringing a
3 year-old there...... When we travelled with young children, we would go to the upscale places very early.

Be aware that there are still smoking sections in most restaurants in Montreal (until next winter when the indoor no smoking ruling takes effect, you might want to inquire when you reserve)

odie, upon reading my answer, it sounds unwelcoming, I certainly did not mean that; I'm just trying to evaluate your comfort level. Ferreira is non smoking ( a rare one for now)
and they do have a few tables in the summer open to the street where you might feel less squeezed in. It's such a wonderful fish place, you should not miss it.

The reason I mentioned eating early with kids is that you would have swifter service also as opposed to the later crowds.
