Rental cars in Canada
 

Anything special we should know about renting a car in Canada. Upcoming road trip in Quebec, end of Aug-beginning of Sept. I would think no special driver's license required.

Are major American car rental companies well represented at Quebec Airport? Is it better to google to see what Canadian companies turn up?

The major Canadian companies are the same major US companies - they are international.

If you look at the airport's website you find all the info about rental cars.

Canadian rental companies make more money selling insurance than actual rentals-expect to be sold up relentlessly even to the point of being lied to as to what's compulsory or not.

So be on your guard and use your own insurance not theirs you don't need it.

LOL - that's absurd.

You can't even find (what America calls) "Supplemental Liability" among your options on most Canadian rentals.


Most people aren't as gullible as you must've been.

I rent every 6 weeks or so and that's my experience.

My coverage is free and the card I use is free as well-sorry to disappoint you.

What does any 'card' have anything to do with this subject?

There is nothing "compulsory" among insurance options at Canadian Auto Rental companies.

Stop being so gullible and stop trying to get others into a pointless panic.

I had read that having proof of your U.S. insurance is needed if requested by police. Contact your insurance company and ask for an ID card for Canada. They need a weeks notice to mail it or they can fax it in 48 hours. Ours was supposed to be faxed to the first hotel we stayed at but never made it. I did have a normal copy of our insurance card and luckily never encountered the police. Costco/Avis was not as cheap as a professional organization discount. We also saved 50% by renting from an off site location and returning to the airport. Good-luck and have a great visit!
