Recommend a meeting place between Vancouver and Kelowna??
Any suggestions where I could meet family - I'll be staying in Kelowna and they live in Vancouver..thought we could meet somewhere half way or is it too mountainous between the two cities to make this work? thanks.

How long are you meeting for? A day, a week? What type of amenities do you want in your meeting place?
I don't intend to sound snarky, but may I suggest getting out a map? Here's a good one: http://www.hellobc.com/NR/rdonlyres/...11C/0/BC01.pdf |
Another question - what time of the year would you be doing this? That would make quite a difference.

We just want to meet for 2-3 hours - long lunch perhaps. I looked at a map but couldn't figure out how "treacherous", mounainous etc. the routes were. This would be for mid September. Thx.

I'm not sure what you mean by too mountainous. The Coquihalla (toll) Hwy route seems less mountainous to me because it is faster and less twisty than the Manning Park route. Both are easy drives as long as there is no ice or snow. I suppose you could meet in Hope, leaving you with the mountain driving, or in Merritt or Princeton to split it up, but personally I don't know of anywhere I'd want to eat in those places.
I would rather meet in Vancouver or the Okanagan. But if no one wants to do the whole round trip, would the relatives at least drive to Chilliwack or Abbotsford? |
The weather in mid September is fine so you don't have to worry about that. There really isn't a good half way point. As April said meeting in Vancouver or the Okanagan is better. I would suggest Manning Park lodge if you are looking for a place that you can meet easily at and take your time for lunch. Have you asked if they would consider driving to the Okanagan? They don't have to go all the way to Kelowna - you could meet in Penticton or Osoyoos - perhaps at a winery that has a nice restaurant like Burrowing Owl in Oliver????

If you want to meet in Merritt, which is a little closer to Kelowna than Vancouver I recommend Quilchena hotel. It is an old restored hotel / restaurant about 20 minutes north of Merritt on the old highway to Kamloops.
I am not sure what dining options you would have at lunch time. www.quilchena.com |
Meeting at Minter Gardens would be another option. It will take you 2hrs and 45 min to get there from Kelowna, and probably under 2 hours from Vancouver depending where they are.
The gardens should still have lots of colour, and they have a decent restaurant. (the food is OK) For good food in that area go to the Wildcat grill. It is just across the road from Minter Gardens. Other than Hope, there is nothing between Chilliwack and Merrit. http://www.mintergardens.com/minter.htm I also like the idea of Quilchena in Merrit. That way each of you would only drive one mountain pass. They have a nice golf course there. |
