Mrs. Reports and I had a wonderful experience at Bu earlier this year. Great selection of wines by the glass, with a new list every week. There are only two hot main courses to choose from. We ate a wide variety of the appetizers, matching each with a different wine. Excellent service.
And last night, on our way in search of sushi or Chinese, we passed a small bistro at 161 Ontario Est (right next to Jello Bar) called Colis-Brie Traiteur/Bistro. Ate there instead and were not disappointed. Small front room that will seat 16, plus four at the bar, also has a room for 10 but it is not finished, nor is the upstairs outdoor terrace. The food is tapas, individually or five to a plate, and about 6 main to choose from. We each had a tapas plate and both were excellent. If you only try one tapas it must be the escargots in gorgonzola sauce - delicious. Small wine list but prices for everybody. Stopped in at the new W on Place Victoria on the way back and had a minor tour. JQ |
Will try Colis Brie, sounds neat.
I drove past the W yesterday; I was astonished at the bright blue W sign, and found the building non descript- I will try to go in and have a look. The W's I've seen in new york are grander looking; I've stayed at the Washington Square W so far. I can't believe how many interesting hotels are popping up in Old Montreal; I wonder if their dining rooms as good. The S restaurant on St. Paul is interesting looking. |
Hey, thanks , jamierin!
I am starting a new list, next trip up, we will go to all new restaurants. With perhaps just one visit to Au Petit Extra and L'Express and , well, we will see :D |
We love Guy & Dodo (http://www.guydodo.com/) and try to have dinner there on every visit to Montreal. The beurre blanc is perfection! The place is beautiful, comfortable, and quiet. Guy & Dodo are fantastic. Prices are reasonable - excellent value here.

Thank you to all who replied! We did end up going to Brunoise and it was fabulous!! All eight of us were completely delighted with all of the food. We were even served a small cup of soup as a starter which was just delicious! Everything was wonderful, from the knowledgable waitress MaryAnne, to the reasonable prices, to wine list, and to the friendly owner Zach who took our coats when we arrived and then asked us how our dinners were and said goodbye to us at the end of the evening. We were all surprised that the portions were not skimpy and we were certainly full at the end of the night. It was great to have a big group because we all got to try a bite of everything. We all highly recommend this find!
