Queen Elizabeth Hotel?
 

I will be going to Montreal in 3 weeks and have gotten a rate at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel of $125 US including breakfast. The last time I visited Montreal was 18 years ago when my children were both young and now we are going with my daugter and her soon to be husband. I remember that the location of the hotel seemed to be good but not quite certain of that. Any recommendations as to whether this is a good price and value or does anyone have suggestions as to some other equally valued hotel. Also any dining suggestions would be appreciated.

It's upstairs over a railroad station -- which is not a bad thing, because there are great fast food places there. <BR> <BR>Direct entrace to Metro (thesubway) and an escalator ride away from indoor shopping. <BR> <BR>Easy walsk to lots of interesting places. All in all, hard to beat if you want to be in the hub of a wheel, with interesting stuff all around. <BR> <BR>BAK

Have booked the Queen Elizabeth for 2 nights. My next question how is the Beaver Room is it worth dining there for one of my 2 nights or should I go elsewhere? Open to dining suggestion near the hotel or in Old Montreal. Have checked out restaurant quide but would like to have comments. Thanks

I lived there most of my life. <BR>The Beaver Club is an uppedy place that is not indicative of dining in Montreal. I wouldn't waste one of my evenings there. <BR>Among our favorites is Gibby's in Old Montreal. Cobble stone streets. It was a horses stable in the old days. Great steak house. Moishe's on the "main" is also a great steak house. Schwartz on the "main" for "Smoked Meat". <BR>Obviously there are many French restaurants that others will post. <BR> <BR>Queen E is an excellent location. On Dorchester (oops. Rene Levesque). One block south of the main shopping street, Ste Catherine. <BR> <BR>

Any other suggestions for dining in Montreal. Interested in french dining possibly in Old MOntreal also is Nuances a good choice since we will be going to the casino one of the nights?

About two hours ago my wife and I were talking about an extraordinary lunch we had a couple of years ago at the Beaver Club. It's one of the best restaurants in Canada. but it if fancy and formal and generally wonderful. <BR> <BR>Montreal is full of wonderful restaurants. And Gibby's mentioned above, is one of them. <BR> <BR>Ifyou are the kind of people who like to wear ties when going out to dinner, go to the Beaver Club. If you like to dress up not quite as fancy and leave the ties at home, go to Gibby's. <BR> <BR>It is generally hard to get a bad meal in Montreal, and the easiest way to know a restaurant is not very good is if it is not crowded. Just walking for a while and looking in doors can turn up some nice surprises. <BR> <BR>For fancy, you might try Les Halles, or Chez la Mere Michel. <BR> <BR>BAK <BR> <BR>

Are any of the last mentioned restaurants in the old Montreal area? I appreciated all the help and suggestions.

We ate at Bonaparte's 2 years ago. It's in Old Monteral, a nice French restaurant...they serve Grand Marnier Souffle for desert...what a special treat!
