Quebec weather?

Hi fellow travelers. We're thinking of going to Montreal and Quebec City in early July, but I read at least one posting that said the weather could be rainy. Is that true and would we be better off to visit later in the summer? And by rainy, does that mean a few showers or downpours? Thanks much. -Cheryl

It does rain a lot in Quebec in the summer but it's mostly in the form of intense downpours preceeded and followed by warm to hot sunny weather. I don't live in Quebec but have been there many times in the summer and rarely does more than a few days go by without a one hour downpour complete with thunder and lightning. But I've never been there where it's been cool, cloudy and showery for more than one or two days in a row.

I guess the weather could be rainy ..... but normally our grass turns brown and dies for lack of rain in July ....???? ( I live in Montreal ) I would not worry , not 'typically' rainy . Faith

My experience is that of faithie, from having lived in Montreal for a number of years, and in Ottawa (which has roughly the same weather as Montreal) for many.

I certainly wouldn't describe the weather in July as rainy. Of course there may be a few days of rain, but it's mostly hot and sunny, unless there is an abnormally wet summer. Don't expect a one hour thunderstorm every day, either.
