Quebec Upper or Lower?
 

I will be in Quebec City in October and have found two cozy looking inns, one in the old city and one in the lower city. Which area is the better choice to stay in? I am 50ish so don't need a wild night life! I would like to be close to attractions, restaurants and shopping. Thanks!

I would recommend the old city. That is where most of the sights are. It is pretty quiet in shoulder season. You don't want to take all the stairs from the lower city all the time.

I find that the lower town is more quiet but with a lot of restaurants along with a little shopping on the Rue Petit Champlain,. There are a lot of antique shops also, down there around Rue St Paul and Place Royal is a nice quiet historical square great for sitting and people watching. If you want to go up to the Upper town, you can also take the funicular for about $.75 US a ride ( I believe it was $1.25 Canadian, so you don't have to take the stairs.<BR><BR>If your hotel is around Rue St Jean, (upper town)it is more of a younger area. <BR><BR>I am a 40-ish woman from NYC area and I prefer the lower town myself.... just my humble opinion. Hi "Wisconsin" We recently returned from a four day stay in Quebec City and did a lot of walking. I traveled with my 70+ year-old mother. We stayed in the old city and both thought we made the best choice. While very nice, I thought the lower city was just to "new" as far as its hotels, etc. But wherever you stay in Quebec City, you are close to attractions and restaurants and shopping. It really is not all that big. Have a wonderful trip.
