Quebec to NYC
We will be travelling from Quebec City to new York City via north state New York. We have been unable to locate a rental agency that will allow us to make this one way trip at a reasonable price. Any suggestions or alternative ways to do this?

Amtrak goes to Montreal and then you could take ViaRail from Montreal to Quebec City with a overnight stay in Montreal. Which would give you a great way to view the scenery of the Adirondacks and a relaxing way to travel.
|
You could alternatively, if you wanted to get to Quebec City in one day so as not to overnight in Montreal...take Greyhound leaving in the morning (leaving at about 7:30am or so would get you into Montreal around 4pm). There are Orleans Express buses then hourly to Quebec City out of Montreal's Central Station (3 hour journey). It's a long day but do-able.

Whistler and Daniel....thanks so much for replying. Our problem is that we land in Montreal, spend 3 days there and then take the train to Quebec City for 3 days. We were hoping to drive straight from Quebec City to upstate New York, visit a few places in the Adirondacks and then head down to NYC where we would drop off the car. We would prefer no to have to backtract to Montreal. Would there be a way of driving to the Canada US border near Quebec City, drop the car off on the Canadian side, and then rent another car on the American side? Our problem is not being able to rent a car one way with drop off in the US. We would be willing to take other forms of transportation that could get us to upper state New York.

You might want to take the train back from Quebec to Montreal, and then take the bus to Burlington, Vermont (2hr25min, 5 buses a day); and rent your car from there.
|
Or fly into Burlington, VT instead, and rent a US car for your whole journey. That is if you haven't puchased your plane tickets, of course.

hi bobobo
We visit Saranac Lake/Lake Placid every year. These towns are in the heart of the adirondacks about 1.5 hours from Montreal, and both are serviced by Adirondack Trailways bus service (who have a terminal in Montreal). You can board the bus in Saranac Lake in front of the Hotel Saranac for NYC. Your other option would be to fly/bus to Plattsburgh (about 45 minutes from Montreal and at the "gate" to the Adirondacks) and rent a car there - something you will probably want to do if visiting the region. Plattsburgh is closer to the Adirondacks than Burlington, but in either case you will have to travel through Montreal to get there. Good luck! |
