Quebec rural destinations
 

We are traveling to Quebec in August. We will spend time in both Montreal and Quebec City but I would like to escape the urban setting for a couple of days. We are a couple in our 50's. Enjoy moderate to easy hiking. Not interested in camping (those days are over!!) so will need lodging. Any ideas?

I would look at the Eastern Townships of QC. There's a lot of information on this thread. The places mentioned in the last post are in the Eastern Townships

The Eastern Townships offer hiking, amazing road biking, about two dozen fun wineries, and some nice lakes. Look at the towns of Magog, Sutton, and Bromont.
Another option would be the Charlevoix area, which is northeast of Quebec City along the St Lawrence. Lots of hiking, beautiful scenery. Look at Baie Saint Paul and Tadoussac.
Realize rural Quebec is pretty much all French speaking.

Nonsense.

SEPAQ is the Quebec government's park system, with many locations and a variety of accommodations. I've given the website that shows such things as permanent tents, cabins and other ways you can almost camp but without your own tent:

A word about words. This is the "national" park system, run by the provincial government. Canada's federal government also has some park and historic locations. I will say no more, since that discussion is perpetual. Wherever, you will be welcome, in enough English to cause no worries.

cdnyul, you may have a different take, but we travel in the Eastern Townships quite a bit - we have been in restaurants and shops where the waitstaff and shopkeepers could speak very little or no English.

Thank you all. Actually my husband speaks a little French and we are fine in a non English speaking environment. When in Rome....!

I'd drive towards Charlevoix, hike somewhere, sleep anywhere between Baie-St-Paul and Tadoussac, go on a whale watching trip or not, then cross the St-Lawrence in St-Siméon or les Escoumins. Then you can drive back to Montréal on the slow or fast road without going through Quebec City. You could even detour through Beauce and the Eastern Township if you like driving.

As for hiking, baliseqc.ca is a good place to start.
