Quebec cruise port and area

My husband and I are flying to Boston (from dfw) renting a car and driving to Quebec City for a 7 day Canada/New England cruise. I'm wondering if we need to keep the car while we're in port in Quebec City. Will it cost me a fortune to park at the port? Can we access downtown or anything interesting on foot from the ship?

The first overnight of the cruise we stay docked in Quebec. So, I could keep the car an extra night and drive around if that makes more sense. Just wondering the best things to see and how convenient they are to the port area.

Thanks for any input or advice!!

The cruise port is directly below the cliffs and walls of the old city. As long as you are reasonably spry you can walk to most of the old section, and there is a little funicular up the hill to the boardwalk in front of the Chateau Frontenac. Otherwise, take a cab or seek out the bus system. Being old, the city is a tough drive and parking is even worse.
