Quebec City with child
 

Hello Fellow Travellers!

My 7 year old son and I are going to Quebec City in the middle of November. Can you suggest any places that would be of interest to a 7 year old? We're staying right in the old part of the City.

Quebec City has lots of European charm, but I'm not sure if this would impress a 7 year old. Here are a few suggestions:
The Museum of Civilization - a hands on science and history museum - lots of interactive exhibits.
The changing of the guard - I'm not sure if this is done outoors in November.
The observatory at the top of the Hotel du Parlament.
A ferry ride across the St. Lawrence.
Watching the street performers. Again I'm not sure how many there will be in November (which can have some harsh weather).

We visited Quebec with a 10 year old, several years ago in Dec.

This worked for us-
1. A Quebec Ramparts Junior Hockey game.
2. The toboggan ride back of the Chateau Frontenac
3.A caleche ride (horse and carriage),where he thinks he is steering the horse.
4. Ask the Hotel re the best place to park a kid while you have a couple of Molsons.

Take extra layers of clothes and enjoy the cold weather! Sip lots of hot chocolate to keep warm in all of the lovely cafes and restaurants. You might check into going ice-skating in Quebec City. Also, some of the best hockey games you will ever see are Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games - these are the best of the best young hockey players in Canada (most are older teenagers and many are drafted into the National Hockey League). The ticket prices are affordable and the games are very exciting - try to get a ticket in the front 5 rows up from the ice surface. You can hear skates crunching, pucks bouncing, the players thump right up on the boards, you can hear the chatter and see their faces. It is so thrilling and the hockey is great!
