Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto with Kids?
 

We will be traveling to Canada in August and would like to spend 5 days in one of these cities. We are 4 adults with 3 young children ranging in ages from 1-4 yrs old. Which, if any, of these destinations would be a better choice. We will be in New York (3 days) and drive to Canada (with a stop at Niagra Falls). Any advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

For ease of travel, stop at the Falls and then make Toronto your stop for this trip... there's a ton of stuff in TO including a Zoo, Canada Wonderland, lots of Beach and waterfront, boat rides, parks, a great little amusement park on Centre Island, great food and several festivals... steer clear of Caribana week, when the city becomes glutted with more adult type parades, crowds and traffic jams...have fun!

Personally, I would not go to Montreal or Quebec City with young children. Both are great cities but save it for when they are older. You need to do a great deal of walking in both places to really appreciate them and I don't think you really want to do that. Montreal is about a 6 hour drive from Toronto and Q.C, is another 2.5 hours. I would agree with garyt22 that Toronto has all could want for children of that age. A nice side trip would be to go to Cobourg, a 1.5 hour drive east of Toronto. It has a very good beach and well worth a visit. My children spent many happy hours there playing in the sand, which is kept meticulously clean. Another option would be Presquile Provincial Park in Brighton, a 2 hour drive east. They have huge beaches. Hope this helps.
