Quebec City - Long weekend for Anniversary - Dec
 

I cant wait to see this lovely town! We have 4 days to spend here. My husband has a confernce a couple of days here before I join him, so we are locked into a hotel. (at least that is paid for!) It is not anything great - but so what!

To make up for that we want to know some of your favorite higher end restaurants appropriate to celebrate! And also some good local bistros for lunch ec..

What else do you suggest doing - we are not afraid of the cold... to an extent.

We went in late March, so the weather wasn't ideal. It was bitterly cold, with the beauty of winter snow gone and the signs of spring just beginning; however, I would LOVE to go back!

If you have a car, make the drive to Montmorency Falls. It was muddy and somewhat unattractive when we were there, but the visitors' center had a disply of pictures of the falls completely frozen, and people climbing the ice. We also toured the Citadelle, which we found interesting.

There was a museum/store (I think it's on Rue St. John) featuring maple syrup with a small exhibit with facts and photos about maple syrup.

One of our favorite restaurants was Le cochon dingue~The Crazy Pig. All four of us had different dishes, and each was fabulous~my daughter especially loved the French onion soup!

I'd heartily recommend Café du Clocher Pencher. Food was excellent but you might want to brush up on your French. Here's the thread tenthumbs was referring to

Thanks for the link to the trip report - I did read it - good info.

We are staying a the Marriot Courtyard which I was rather nonplussed about but it actually has great reviews on trip Advisor and seems more boutique like. The location eems very central with good views of the old section.

Looking forward to visiting the Frontenac too!

And I am thrilled to be able to use my French too.

My report's a couple of years old now but there might be something in there that's helpful. I second the suggestion about eating at Clocher Pencher. We had brunch there and loved it.

Annesherrod, we think you'll really like Quebec City. . .especially if you're prepared for the cold. We have a trip report posted under "Quebec" which you might find helpful. It's Part 2 of a 3-Part trip. Just skim over the beginning. . .our trip en route from Maine. However, when arriving in Quebec, we did stay at the Marriott Courtyard, and described it a bit. The walking tour of the city was very worthwhile. Have a drink at the Chateau Frontenac. If you get a sunny day, the drive to Baie St. Paul, and from there along the St. Lawrence to Malbaie, is an enjoyable side trip. Enjoy your trip!

I just ran into a neighbor I have not seen in ages and Quebec is one of their favorite places - He is going to write down his favorite restaurants for me too!

I am curious of the walking tour - I am sure there are various ones, but was wondering if you get to go inside at any time or are you out for the entire time - which is two hours I think? If it in the 20's that might be too cold for this one.

Annesherrod, the walking tour is two hours. . .all outside. We picked it up at the Tourist Info center across from the Chateau Frontenac. We'd probably opt out if it's below freezing. Just play it by ear. If it's a sunny day, you might be in luck. Have a great trip!

We had a very nice dinner at Le Le Lapin Sauté on rue Petit-Champlain in the Lower Town in early June. I think you would enjoy it for lunch--probably not high end enough for what you are looking for for dinner. If you want to try some French Canadian specialties, Aux Anciens Canadiens in the Upper Town has good deals at lunch.

We had a wonderful time - it was a very special trip for us. We loved Quebec!

we stayed at the Marriott Courtyard and the hotel is fine not too far to any of the sights but don't have the breakfast there. to pricey and not very good. lots of good local places nearby and some great breakfast crepes to be had. Nice little local restaurant is the Cafe De St Malo We went in the Spring so i am sure it will be very cold but lots of fun
