Quebec advice needed

I am in early stages of planning a trip to Quebec City in late July or August; will be staying with a friend there. We will take a 2 or 3 day trip to Montreal together so that is in the plans. But I am wondering if perhaps there are scenic spots near Quebec City that I could visit on my own, giving my friend some relief time from being a host. I like nature, history, walking and limited hiking (I am good for 4-5 miles roundtrip).

Tadoussac is in all the guidebooks so perhaps I could get a one day tour there from QC or even stay the night there if there is enough to do (without a car). But perhaps there are other places that I could get to with public transportation for either a day trip or a short stay? She's already planning on taking me to the sights within the city itself. Thank you!
